Zero-Click Search
A zero-click search is one that ends on the results page: the person got what they needed from a featured snippet, an AI Overview, a map, a product panel or a knowledge panel and never clicked through to any site. Industry studies have put the share of Google searches ending without a click at well over half, and AI Overviews have pushed it higher for informational questions in particular.
For a store, the phenomenon has two faces. Informational questions — "is linen machine washable," "how big is a size 8 ring" — are increasingly answered in place, so a blog post targeting them earns less than it used to and the effort is better spent answering the question on the relevant collection page. Buying questions — "linen tablecloth 60 by 120" — still click through, but to the stores shown in the product panel or cited in the Overview rather than to a list of ten. Zero-click isn't the end of search traffic; it's a concentration of it on whoever is in the answer. The practical response is to measure inclusion rather than impressions, and to make sure the product data that fills those panels is complete.
What it means for your store
A majority of Google searches now end without a click. For a store, that's two different things: informational questions ("is linen machine washable") are increasingly answered in place, so a blog post targeting them earns less than it used to; buying questions ("linen tablecloth 60x120") still click through — but to the stores shown in the panel or cited in the Overview. Zero-click isn't the end of search traffic; it's a shift toward whoever is in the answer.
Why it matters
It explains falling traffic with stable rankings, and it tells you to stop measuring "impressions" and start measuring whether you're in the answer.
How CataSEO helps
CataSEO focuses optimization on product and category pages — the ones buying questions still click through to — and on being cited when the answer is generated.
What you can do yourself
In Search Console, compare impressions to clicks by query. Where impressions rose and clicks fell, an answer is taking the click. For buying queries, make sure your product structured data is complete so you appear in product panels. For informational queries, answer them on the relevant collection page rather than a separate blog post.
