Domain Authority
Domain Authority (DA) is a score from 0 to 100, developed by Moz, that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search results compared with other sites. It isn't a Google metric — Google has never published a site-wide score — but it's the industry's most widely used stand-in for the thing Google clearly does measure: how much the rest of the web vouches for you. The score is built mainly from your link profile: how many separate sites link to yours, how trusted those sites are themselves, and how those links have accumulated over time.
Two things trip people up. First, the scale is logarithmic — moving from 10 to 20 is far easier than moving from 40 to 50, so a small store shouldn't compare itself to Amazon. Second, DA is relative: it's recalculated against the whole web, so your score can dip slightly even when nothing on your site changed, simply because other sites earned links faster. That's why CataSEO pairs it with Authority Trend, which shows the direction over 13 months rather than one snapshot.
What it means for your store
Low (0–9): search engines treat you as unproven; every ranking is hard-won.
Typical (10–25): you can rank for specific product terms, not broad ones.
Established (26–40): a recognised name in your niche.
Strong (41+): you outrank most shops you compete with.
Why it matters
It's the tiebreaker. When two stores describe a product equally well, the one with more authority ranks — and AI tools lean on the same signal when choosing whom to name.
How CataSEO helps
CataSEO makes every product page worth linking to; pages that answer real questions earn citations on their own.
What you can do yourself
Authority is earned from links, so the work is getting real sites to point at you: ask every supplier you carry to list you as a source on their "where to buy" page; send a product to bloggers, YouTubers and local press who cover your niche; get listed by your chamber of commerce, trade association and any "made in" or "shop local" directory that's a real site, not a link farm; publish one page a quarter that answers a question people in your niche actually argue about, because those get cited; and claim your Google Business Profile. Check your existing links in Search Console and ask any site that mentions you without a link to add one. It moves slowly — watch Authority Trend for progress.
