Schema.org
Schema.org is the shared vocabulary that structured data is written in — a public catalogue of types (Product, Offer, Organization, Review, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList and hundreds more) and the properties each can have. It was founded in 2011 by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and Yandex so that one set of labels would be understood by every search engine, and it has since become the vocabulary AI tools read too. Structured data is the sentence; schema.org is the dictionary it's written from.
A store owner doesn't need to learn it — the platform or CataSEO writes it — but knowing the handful of types that matter makes test results legible. Product with its nested Offer is the one that decides whether a product page is recommendable. Organization establishes who you are and links your social and business profiles. BreadcrumbList tells machines how your site is structured. FAQPage marks up the buyer questions you've answered. Because the vocabulary is shared, there is no separate "AI schema" to maintain: one correct implementation serves Google, Bing, and every AI tool that reads pages.
What it means for your store
Schema.org is the dictionary; structured data is the sentence. For a store, the types that matter are Product, Offer, AggregateRating, Review, BreadcrumbList, Organization and FAQPage. You don't need to learn it — your platform or CataSEO writes it — but knowing the names lets you read a test result and understand what's missing.
Why it matters
Because it's shared, one correct implementation is understood by Google, Bing, and every AI tool that reads pages. There's no separate "AI schema."
How CataSEO helps
CataSEO writes schema.org-compliant structured data for products, categories and brands.
What you can do yourself
Look up schema.org/Product once to see the field names, then compare against your Rich Results Test output. Fill what's blank in your platform. If your theme doesn't emit Organization or BreadcrumbList, most schema apps add them.
