Search Traffic Estimate + Trend
Search Traffic Estimate + Trend is an estimate of how many visits Google sends your site each month from unpaid search results, and how that compares with the same month a year earlier. The estimate comes from Ahrefs, which models traffic from the terms a site ranks for, its positions, and the click rates those positions typically earn. It is not your analytics — you'll always know your own numbers better — but it is the same model applied to every store, which is what makes it useful for comparison and for a trend.
The trend is the part to watch. Year-over-year is the right comparison for retail because it cancels seasonality: comparing December to July tells you about Christmas, not about your site. A declining trend with stable rankings usually means one of two things — pages that used to rank have slipped (content decay), or the searches still find you but the AI answer above the results now takes the click. A growing trend means the pages you already have are working harder, which is the cheapest growth there is. Because the estimate lags real changes by a month or two, treat it as confirmation of work done rather than a daily dashboard.
What it means for your store
Growing: the pages you have are working harder — keep feeding them.
Flat: not losing shoppers, not winning new ones; usually the catalogue hasn't changed.
Declining: fewer shoppers than a year ago — most often content decay, or the AI answer now takes the click that used to come to you.
Why it matters
This is the number the other nine add up to: shoppers actually arriving. The trend shows where you're heading before revenue does.
How CataSEO helps
CataSEO refreshes the product pages that have decayed — the ones that used to rank and slipped — which is where traffic returns fastest.
What you can do yourself
Traffic follows first-page rankings, so start with the highest-volume terms in your Highest-Traffic Keywords table that aren't on page 1 and do the page-1 work. If the trend is declining, find the decay: in Search Console, compare the last 3 months with the same 3 months a year ago by page, sorted by lost clicks — the pages at the top used to work and have been out-written or gone stale; refresh them first (current stock, prices, seasonal terms, the questions buyers ask now). Check the technical side too — site speed, mobile layout, broken links, pages that went 404 after a catalogue change — and then watch monthly, because the number lags the fix by a month or two.
