Search Volume
Search volume is an estimate of how many times a specific term is searched on Google per month, usually averaged across the past twelve months. It is the demand number behind every keyword in your report and behind every question we ask the AI tools. The figure comes from tools like Moz that model it from clickstream and advertising data; it is an estimate, not a count, and different tools give different numbers for the same term — what's reliable is the relative ordering, not the exact figure.
Two properties matter for a store. First, seasonality: an annual average hides that "Christmas garland" is searched almost entirely in November, so Google Trends is the companion tool for timing. Second, the long tail: most of a store's traffic comes not from a few high-volume terms it can't win but from many specific, lower-volume terms it can — the exact product phrasings shoppers use. The useful reading of volume is therefore comparative: which of your products have real demand behind them, which searches you already rank for are worth pushing, and which buyer questions enough people ask to be worth answering on the page. Effort should follow volume, but volume should be read in the shopper's own words.
What it means for your store
Volume is an estimate, not a count, and it's seasonal: "Christmas garland" averages a few thousand a month but nearly all of it lands in November. For a store, the useful reading is relative — which of your products have real demand behind them, which searches you rank for are worth the effort, and which questions enough people ask to be worth answering on the page.
Why it matters
It's how the report separates "you're not ranking" from "you're not ranking for something people actually want." Effort should follow volume.
How CataSEO helps
CataSEO grounds every keyword and every AI question in measured search volume, so optimization targets demand that exists.
What you can do yourself
Use Google Trends for seasonality and the free tier of Moz Keyword Explorer for monthly numbers. For each product, find the phrasing with the most volume that still means your product, and use it in the title and first paragraph. Ignore terms under a few dozen searches unless they're your exact product.
