Title Tag
The title tag is the page title declared in the page's code. It appears as the blue link in search results, as the browser tab label, and as the default title when the page is shared. It is the single strongest on-page signal of what a page is about — for search engines, for AI tools deciding whether a retrieved page answers the question, and for the shopper deciding whether to click.
A good product title tag says what the product is, in the words shoppers search, with the store or brand at the end: "Swedish Straw Julbock Ornament, 6 in – Varme Gift." The common failures are the supplier's SKU-style name ("JB-06-NAT"), the same title on every variant, and titles so generic that Google rewrites them — which it does openly, and which Search Console reveals when the title shown differs from the one you set. Around 60 characters is the practical limit before truncation. Because the tag is usually generated from a template (product name plus store name), a better template fixes most of the catalogue at once, and hand-written titles for the top sellers do the rest.
What it means for your store
A product title tag should say what the product is, in the words shoppers search, with the brand or store name at the end: "Swedish Straw Julbock Ornament, 6 in – Varme Gift." The common failures: the manufacturer's SKU-style name, the same title on every variant, or a title so generic ("Ornament") that Google rewrites it. Keep it under about 60 characters so it isn't cut off.
Why it matters
It's the cheapest ranking lever on a product page and the first thing both Google and an AI tool use to decide what the page is.
How CataSEO helps
CataSEO writes a unique, search-phrased title for every product, category and brand.
What you can do yourself
In Search Console, look for pages where Google shows a different title than yours — that's Google telling you the tag is weak. Set a title template (product name + type + store) in your platform, then hand-write titles for your top 50 products using the phrasing with the most search volume.
