Your Top Competitor, According to AI
Your Top Competitor, According to AI names the store that AI tools recommended most often across the same buyer questions we asked about you, and shows how many times they were named against how many times you were. It's drawn from the same probe as the AI Recommends-You metric, so it's a like-for-like comparison: same questions, same tools, same day.
The value of the metric is that it's specific. "Competitors are winning in AI" is a mood; "decoratorswarehouse.com was named in 7 of 20 answers and you were named in 0" is a target you can study. The named competitor is often not who you'd expect — marketplaces like Amazon appear, but so do independents of your own size whose product pages simply answer the question more plainly. That's the point: AI tools choose pages they can read and verify, not brands they've heard of, and a store you can out-write is a store you can overtake. The report also lists the other stores named, so you can see the whole answer set you're trying to join.
What it means for your store
Wide: they own these questions; you're not in the conversation.
Close: both named; consistency decides it.
You lead: protect the pages that earned it.
Why it matters
AI competition isn't about size — Amazon shows up, but so do independents whose pages simply answer the question better. The named competitor is a benchmark you can actually study.
How CataSEO helps
CataSEO benchmarks your product pages against the competitor's for these exact questions and closes the difference.
What you can do yourself
Open their page for one of these questions next to yours and go line by line: what do they state that you don't — material, dimensions, who it's for, shipping, returns, a direct answer to the question? What's on their page as text that's only in your images or PDFs? Do they have product structured data, reviews, and a category page that ties the products together? Then check how the AI tool got there — if the basis says live search, the AI found them via Google, so their ranking is your problem too; if it says model memory, they've been cited widely enough to be remembered, which is the authority work. Close the visible gaps first; they're usually the whole difference.
