Visibility Optimization
Visibility Optimization is the practice of preparing a product catalogue so it is found and recommended everywhere a shopper might look — traditional Google results, the AI Overview above them, Google's AI Mode, and standalone AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude — from a single set of changes to the product, category and brand pages themselves. CataSEO calls it this because the older term, search engine optimization, names only one of those places, and the newer acronyms (GEO, AEO, AIEO) each name a technique rather than the goal.
The premise is that these channels are converging on the same requirements. A search engine ranks a page it can crawl, understand and trust; an AI tool cites a page it can retrieve, read and verify. Both are satisfied by the same product page: a title that says what the item is in the words shoppers use, a description that states what it is, who it's for, what it's made of and how it's used, structured data that confirms price and availability, and answers to the questions buyers actually ask. Visibility Optimization does that work for every item in a catalogue, at scale, and measures the result across search and AI together.
What it means for your store
Traditional SEO optimizes for one place: the Google results page. Visibility Optimization treats every place a shopper might discover a product — the search results, the AI-written answer above them, and the AI tools that never show a results page at all — as one problem with one fix: product pages that state plainly what the product is, carry structured data machines can verify, and answer the questions buyers actually ask.
For an independent store, it means you don't need a separate "AI strategy." The same rewritten product page that moves you up Google is the page ChatGPT can cite.
Why it matters
Shoppers now split their questions across search and AI tools, and the AI tools name two or three stores. A catalogue that is only optimized for search is invisible to a growing share of buyers.
How CataSEO helps
This is what CataSEO does: Visibility Optimization for every product, category and brand in a catalogue, at scale. Read the full explanation.
What you can do yourself
Start with your best sellers. For each product page, check four things: the title names the product the way shoppers search for it; the description says what it is, who it's for, what it's made of and how it's used; price, availability and brand are on the page as text and in product structured data; and nothing in your robots rules blocks Google or the AI crawlers. Then ask an AI tool a buyer's question about that product and see who it names.
