Blog posts
The Blog tab lists your store’s blog posts and lets you write new ones — by hand or with AI — without leaving CataSEO. Posts you publish here go straight to your store’s blog.
Where the Blog tab is
Blog is one of the tabs in the menu bar at the top of CataSEO, between Brands and Images. The screen it opens is headed Blog Posts.
The tab only appears if CataSEO can read your platform’s blog:
- BigCommerce — yes.
- Shopify — yes.
- Wix — yes, but only if the Wix Blog app is installed on your site. Without it, Wix has no blog for CataSEO to read and the tab doesn’t appear.
- WooCommerce — yes, through the CataSEO connector plugin on your WordPress site. If the plugin is deactivated or unreachable, blog posts can’t be read or written.
If you’re on BigCommerce and the Blog tab shows an error about permissions, reopen CataSEO from your BigCommerce control panel and accept the updated permissions. CataSEO needs BigCommerce’s Content permission to read and write blog posts, and stores that installed CataSEO before that permission was added have to approve it once.
What the list shows
The table has four columns — Title, Published, Author and Status — plus a Blog column on Shopify, which is the one platform where a store can have more than one blog. Status is either Published or Draft.
Two kinds of row appear in the same table:
- Posts that are already on your store’s blog. These are read live from your store every time you open the tab.
- Drafts CataSEO generated for you that haven’t been saved to your store yet. These show as In progress, Generating… or Generation failed while they’re being written.
Click Open on any row to see the full post, its SEO fields and its body.
Three ways to start a post
The buttons at the top right of the Blog tab:
- New post — write it yourself, in CataSEO’s own editor. Nothing is generated.
- New post with AI — the five-step wizard. See Write a blog post with AI.
- Start from a topic — the same wizard, opening on a free-text box where you say what the post should be about instead of picking a product first.
These buttons only appear if CataSEO can create posts on your platform.
Write a post yourself
Click New post. You get the post editor with empty fields:
- Title — required. You can’t save without one.
- Blog — which blog the post goes in. This only appears on Shopify, where a store can have several blogs; BigCommerce, Wix and WordPress have one blog per site, so there is nothing to choose.
- Author — on Shopify this is required, because Shopify rejects a post with no author. CataSEO suggests names you’ve used before. On Wix and WordPress the author is the site’s own account, so CataSEO doesn’t ask for a name.
- Excerpt — the short summary shown on your blog index and home page. It is not the same thing as the meta description. Available on Shopify, Wix and WooCommerce.
- Body — edit it as Rich text, as HTML, or look at it under Rendered. If a post contains something the rich-text editor can’t show safely, such as a table, CataSEO tells you and you edit it as HTML.
- SEO — meta description, and meta keywords on BigCommerce and WooCommerce. CataSEO doesn’t write meta keywords on Shopify or Wix: Shopify has no such field, and on Wix it isn’t something CataSEO sets.
- Tags.
Then Save as draft or Publish post.
Saving writes to your store immediately
This is different from product optimization. A product optimization is a draft you approve before anything reaches your storefront. A blog post you save or publish here is written to your store’s blog right away — Save as draft creates a draft post on your blog, and Publish post makes it live.
A post you write without planning it first is never published for you: it sits where it is until you press one of those buttons, and once you press it, it’s on your store.
A post with a date on the content calendar is the exception. If you planned the idea on the content calendar and then wrote it, the post carries that date, and CataSEO publishes it to your blog on the day without asking you again. See Blog ideas and the content calendar.
Publish a post that’s already a draft on your store
Open the post and click Publish. This works on BigCommerce, Shopify and Wix.
On WooCommerce, CataSEO can’t yet flip an existing draft post to published — publish it from your WordPress admin instead. Everything else on the post, including the body and the SEO fields, can still be edited and saved from CataSEO.
What CataSEO does on each platform
“Not yet” means CataSEO doesn’t do it today, not that your platform can’t.
Scheduling isn’t in the table because it doesn’t vary: on every platform, you schedule a post by planning it on the content calendar, and CataSEO publishes it on the day. See Blog ideas and the content calendar.
| BigCommerce | Shopify | Wix | WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| List and read posts | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Create and edit posts | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Publish an existing draft | Yes | Yes | Yes | Not yet |
| More than one blog | No | Yes | No | No |
| Excerpt | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Edit the URL handle | Not yet | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Author name | Yes | Required | Site account | Site account |
| Meta keywords | Yes | No | No | Yes |
Meta keywords are an older SEO field and not something every platform carries. Where the table says No, there’s nothing to set and nothing missing from your post.
